I bet you know that stress is actually the number one killer of humans on the planet. Are you surprised? You thought it was cancer? No, it is not cancer, but it is stress!
Stress is a factor and cause of more physical and mental diseases than most of us can imagine. If you have any disease or ailment, stress will make it worse, including cancer. If you are getting "stressed out," it may bring on an ailment or disease. Just look at what stress does to your blood pressure and heart. Cancer patients recover quicker and better when they ahve less stess. Of course, we are human flesh. We worry.
However, too much stress can cause serious mood swing and result in a possible depression. Stress overload can cause job burn out, chronic fatigue, and nervous breakdowns. All of these conditions can result in long-term effects that can sap your life energy, focus, and motivation. Unfortunately, stress can also be caused by the ego, too much attachment to your desired outcome, greed, jealousy, and hate.

You will truly benefit from it especially in the case of someone that has not been exercising at all because of the condition, you will often see rapid improvements in reducing your stress level after doing Yoga by knowing what the dangerous side effects are. Prospective students sometimes report feeling better after a single class. Some fo my students knew that she was on to something good from that very first demonstration of me to the group at a Yoga class! After the demo, one of the men who used to be so stressed out at work rushed up to me and said that the breathing exercises help him releasing his stress feelings! I have a student called Zhang, who is a working mother. She often feels tensed as she has too much on her plate. At the end of each day, she always compalins to me that she is totally drained and frazzled. She gets irritated over insignificant things and has intense emotional outbursts. Most of the times, she fails to meet the demands of her job or her family.There are times that she just cannot sleep at night. She does not have any appetite, and yet she feels exhausted all the time.

I tell you that there are some ley stress indicators that you have to be aware of: Irritability and nervousness, sleep disorders, poor concentration and low memory retention, anger and tantrums, anti social behavior which sometimes bordering on the violent, alcohol or drug abuse and emotional outbursts.
If you suffer from any of the above mentioned, you have to be extremely cautious as constant stress will trigger physical ailments.
All students especially the teachers should address for the safety issues for the practitioners. Chair yoga has caught on with seniors, and at retirement communities who suffer from stress, because it's safe and suitable for those who have trouble getting up and down, and who have stiff joints.
When you do Yoga, you must remember that rolling back should only go to the shoulders. You should first realize that there are many styles of Yoga. All of them help you reduce stress.
